Algeciras and Tarifa: Key Players in the OPE
This summer, Cádiz witnessed a milestone in maritime traffic management thanks to the Operation Crossing the Strait (OPE) 2024. With record-breaking figures and an operation that exceeded all expectations without the need for extraordinary measures, the OPE has proven to be a model of efficiency and coordination.
Figures that speak for themselves
During OPE 2024, the ports of Algeciras and Tarifa handled more than 1.2 million passengers and 300,000 vehicles. These numbers reflect the scale of this operation, considered one of the largest seasonal migrations in the world. The steady flow of travelers and vehicles remained consistent even during peak weekends in June and August.
The key to success: planning and coordination
The success of OPE 2024 is no coincidence. Behind these impressive figures lies a planning process that began months before the operation started. More than 750 professionals participated in the operation, including port staff, information agents, and port police officers.
A model to follow
Cádiz has demonstrated that with good planning and coordinated efforts, it is possible to manage massive passenger flows efficiently and safely. OPE 2024 exceeded expectations, cementing the province’s ports as benchmarks in maritime traffic management.
