Motril–Melilla: A New Route with the Volcán de Timanfaya
The maritime route between Motril and Melilla now features a new connection operated by Naviera Armas, using the Volcán de Timanfaya ferry. This recently launched route facilitates the transport of both passengers and cargo, providing a direct and efficient link between mainland Spain and Melilla.
The Volcán de Timanfaya Ferry
This ferry, measuring 143 meters in length and 24 meters in beam, offers a wide range of onboard services, including reclining seats, cabins, areas adapted for Persons with Reduced Mobility, self-service options, and a full range of food and drink at bars and cafeterias. It also includes facilities for pets and a swimming pool during summer season. Additionally, the Volcán de Timanfaya is certified to carry hazardous goods on roll-on/roll-off transport, according to Naviera Armas.
2025: Start of Service
Armas will begin operating these routes in January 2025, with three weekly rotations for passengers and vehicles on the Almería–Melilla route, and three more on the Motril–Melilla route.
Benefits of This New Route
The inclusion of the Volcán de Timanfaya ferry on the Motril–Melilla route helps optimize logistics and increases travel options. With this alternative, Naviera Armas responds to the demand for more direct and convenient connections between mainland Spain and North Africa, benefitting both frequent travelers and the commercial sector.
