Ceuta Lines strengthens the Algeciras-Ceuta route with the fast ferries Chenega and Fairweather

Maritime connectivity in the Strait of Gibraltar is reinforced with the addition of a new alternative for travelers. Starting in March 2025, the shipping company Ceuta Lines, a subsidiary of the Balearic group Sercomisa and operating under the Trasmapi brand, will launch a new route between Algeciras and Ceuta, increasing transport options for passengers and goods.

New fast ferries: more speed and efficiency

For this connection, the company will use the high-speed vessels Chenega and Fairweather, which are currently undergoing maintenance in Gibraltar. These ships, built between 2004 and 2005 by Derecktor Shipyards in the United States, have been adapted by Trasmapi to meet the sustainability and accessibility standards required for the route.

The Chenega, with a length of 71.75 meters and a beam of 18.6 meters, offers capacity for 400 passengers and 65 vehicles. In addition, it has two large lanes for rolling cargo, facilitating the transport of goods between Ceuta and the mainland.

Frequency and schedules tailored to travelers

Ceuta Lines has requested the necessary authorizations from the Directorate General of Merchant Marine and the port authorities of Ceuta and Algeciras to operate four daily rotations between both ports.

One key advantage of this new service is that its schedules will not overlap with those of currently operating shipping companies such as Baleària, Armas Trasmediterránea, and FRS. This will provide a differentiated and flexible option for travelers, optimizing transport availability on one of the busiest maritime routes in the country.

A commitment to connectivity and development in the Strait

With this initiative, Ceuta Lines aims to strengthen maritime connectivity in the Strait of Gibraltar, a key route for both passengers and freight transport. The addition of these new fast ferries promises to improve the frequency and capacity of the route, offering users a faster and more efficient alternative.
